The Studio is Packed!
Between classes, live model painting events, commissions, and workshops, my studio filled up with work this winter. Some pieces I’m proud to call my own, while others I hope never see the light of day, or at least won’t ever make it to my website. One lesson I’m still learning is that knowing and doing are very different skills. An artist once told me that if your knowledge is a 10, then your skills are an 8. And if you want to bring your skills up to a 10, you have to kick your knowledge up to a 12. I’ll always know how to paint better than I’m really able. While at times that’s frustrating, there’s nothing that can replace the feeling of a completed piece, flaws and all.

Artwork Spotlight
“Happy are the painters, for they shall not be lonely. Light and colour, peace and hope, will keep them company to the end of the day.”
— Winston Churchill
When I said I didn’t prescribe to any one type or style of art, that I am continuing to explore different types of painting, various mediums, and schools of art, I wasn’t kidding. What’s funny to me is that I started and finished this piece thinking I was doing something different than I had ever tried before, only to hear Evan say, “Oh, that’s just like your other painting you did 10 years ago.” I pulled out that painting, and sure enough, there were a lot similar stylistic elements. I guess there really is nothing new under the sun. Either way, this commission opportunity was so rewarding, and I love how it turned out!

Looking Ahead
It’s Almost Spring in the Studio!
While I love cozy days in the winter, when my studio being the warmest part of the house is a plus, I’m extra excited for spring this year. Every year my garden sprouts a beautiful gem from February to July, and it’s my goal to paint each flower as they spring up around my yard. I might be inspired by my neighbors’ gardens too. The best part of a late March afternoon is seeing all the daffodils laughing at the breeze. When passing a shade garden, the dramatic Lenten Rose catches my eyes as well. From Snowdrops to Sunflowers, I hope to capture every last ray of sunshine.
Thank you for coming along with me on my artistic journey. I’m so glad you’re here. Till next time!-CMC
